Iron Culture Podcast: Getting Shredded...But Not Competing

Contributor: Dr. Ben House

This past year I reached the leanest I have ever been in my life — without competing. Eric Helms and Omar Isuf had me back on Iron Culture to talk through the whole process, what I learned, and why I did it in the first place.

The short version: I wanted to support a friend who was competing, get firsthand experience so I can be a better coach and more accurate in my content, and honestly I was scientifically curious about where my own lower intervention point actually is. How sustainable or unsustainable is it to actually live at that level of leanness? Turns out that is a more interesting question than whether or not I step on stage.

We cover my dieting journey, what the experience of getting shredded actually felt like, the physiological effects of getting that lean, how to think about energy availability in practical terms, and the significant individual differences in how people adapt metabolically to low body fat levels.
